Our Story
The Band
Zach and Morgan Guttman, the twin brothers behind Blacktop Flowers, started playing music together back in 2012 while growing up in Toronto, Canada. Their musical taste had always differed from most of their peers, and after picking up the guitar and banjo, they quickly developed a strong interest in bluegrass and country music. It wasn’t long before they found themselves playing regularly at local open mics and busking on street corners for change. As identical twins, their ability to play music together came naturally, and their voices complimented each other to form effortless harmonies. Inspired by artists like Jason Isbell, Uncle Tupelo, Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch, and the Turnpike Troubadours, the brothers began writing songs and compositions that blended elements of country, americana, rock, and bluegrass, while thoughtfully musing on the experiences of life, loss, and growing into adulthood. After relocating to the US in 2020, the duo officially branded themselves as Blacktop Flowers - a band with Canadian roots, but a decidedly Alt Country sound. Now based in Denver, Colorado, the brothers have recorded their debut EP “Times Change”, which was released on September 5th 2025.
